TM R&D was established on January 11, 2008 by a group of leading Thai scientists with extensive backgrounds in the research and development of natural substances derived from the mangosteen. TM R&D’s goals and objectives include the following:

1. To assemble together the group of scientists and researchers who are working on creating phytoceuticals derived from the mangosteen. This elite group of scientists will come together under one organization with its main goal being to facilitate and coordinate the exchange of knowledge and findings, thus reducing wasted resources and loss of effort due to redundant and overlapping research.

2. To provide opportunities for the researchers to participate in the planning and implementation of international standards for research on mangosteen products. This will lead to practical recommendations for improving consumer health by using the products. The quality and efficacy of Thai mangosteen products will therefore be globally accepted. An example of such research work would be the testing and evaluation of the safety and efficacy of Thai mangosteen products in promoting overall health and preventing diseases, which would otherwise require a sizable budget and continuous collaboration from scientists of various disciplines.

3. To facilitate and provide opportunities for Thai scientists to apply their research findings. By working together with mangosteen growers and industrialists, a sustainable industry can then be established. This will provide the growers with a better income as a result of the higher price of mangosteen. It will also provide a higher profit to the industrialists who manufacture higher value-added goods from the mangosteen. Finally, the scientists and researchers will gain a great sense of pride and satisfaction from being able to implement their research findings.

4. To present and publicize new and updated scientific findings obtained from mangosteen research in a united front to the academic and business communities. This will serve as a marketing tool for the industrialists in selling their products to the consumer, particularly overseas customers. This will eventually bring in additional income for the country.
